Within the fabric of existence, the ongoing theme involves the conflict between good and evil. For believers, the ultimate guide is the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In this eternal battle, Shaitan, the eternal adversary, seeks to lead humanity astray by exploiting weaknesses, desires, and vulnerabilities. It is crucial for believers to understand the subtle tactics employed by Shaitan and to fortify themselves against his treacherous influence. The key lies in unwavering obedience to the commandments of Allah and His Messenger (PBUH).

Shaitan's Motivation:

Shaitan's rebellion against Allah stems from his own disobedience. As an entity created from smokeless fire, he refused to bow to Adam, displaying arrogance and pride. Denied forgiveness due to his refusal to repent, Shaitan vowed to lead humanity away from the path of righteousness. Understanding this motivation is crucial, for it sheds light on why he endeavors to sabotage our connection with Allah and divert us from the righteous path.

Shaitan, having witnessed the presence of Allah, stands as a paramount witness to the Tawheed and supremacy of Allah, surpassing any other creature on Earth. In light of his profound understanding of the truth, he is aware of his inevitable eternal destiny, leading to a deep-seated resentment towards humanity, as they are perceived as the cause of his downfall. Consequently, his primary objective is to lead humans astray from the path of Allah, desiring them to follow his rebellious path.

Shaitan's primary goal is to see humanity become unsuccessful, arrogant, and disobedient. His knowledge and experience surpass ours, making him a formidable adversary. When Iblis became certain of his impending doom due to his arrogance and ingratitude towards his Lord, he made a firm decision to lead as many of Allah's servants astray as possible, with the intention of having them share his fate in Hell. Allah's words in Quran (15:39-40) recount Iblis's declaration:

"He (Satan) said, 'O my Lord, since You have misguided me, I will surely beautify for them the path of error on the earth, and I will mislead them all, except for Your chosen, (guided) servants among them.'"

The Pitfalls of Disobedience:

The story of the people of Sabbath serves as a stark reminder of how Shaitan can manipulate logic to entice individuals into disobeying Allah. By convincing them to use cunning tactics to circumvent the prohibition of fishing on Saturday, they not only disobeyed but suffered severe consequences. The transformation into monkeys and subsequent eradication serves as a cautionary tale against succumbing to the temptations and tricks of Shaitan.

As mentioned in Quran,

“Ask them ˹O Prophet˺ about ˹the people of˺ the town which was by the sea, who broke the Sabbath.1 During the Sabbath, ˹abundant˺ fish would come to them clearly visible, but on other days the fish were never seen. In this way We tested them for their rebelliousness.” (7:163)

“You are already aware of those of you who broke the Sabbath. We said to them, “Be disgraced apes!” (2:65)

The Imperative of Obedience:

Regardless of the challenges we face, obedience to Allah and His Messenger remains non-negotiable. The Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) provide a blueprint for a purposeful and righteous life. Every prohibition and obligation outlined in the Quran serves a greater purpose, guiding believers towards spiritual fulfillment and salvation. The divine commandments, encompassing both prohibitions and obligations, are not arbitrary; rather, they intricately shape the moral compass of believers. Each directive is a thread woven into the fabric of spiritual fulfillment and salvation, providing a roadmap for navigating the complexities of life with resilience, virtue, and unwavering faith. Embracing these divine guidelines ensures that believers remain steadfast on the path of righteousness, even in the midst of life's challenges.

“˹He is the One˺ Who created death and life in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the Almighty, All-Forgiving.” (Quran 67:2)

“I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me.” (Quran 51:56)

Facing Trials with Resilience:

In the pursuit of adherence to Allah's commandments, believers may encounter formidable challenges and confront difficulties that test the strength of their faith. The journey toward righteousness is not exempt from trials, but it is precisely in overcoming these challenges that the sincerity of one's devotion is demonstrated. Whether grappling with personal losses, adversities, or societal pressures, believers are reminded that true success lies in unwavering commitment to Allah. The path to spiritual fulfillment necessitates a steadfast resolve to navigate through life's tribulations without compromising the principles laid out in the Quran. In abstaining from the prohibited and dutifully fulfilling the obligatory, individuals not only fortify their connection with the divine but also align themselves with the profound purpose that shapes the very essence of their existence. This unwavering dedication serves as a beacon guiding believers through the complexities of life, ensuring that they remain resolute in their pursuit of obedience.

“Do people think once they say, “We believe,” that they will be left without being put to the test? We certainly tested those before them. And ˹in this way˺ Allah will clearly distinguish between those who are truthful and those who are liars.” (Quran 29: 2-3)

“We will certainly test you with a touch of fear and famine and loss of property, life, and crops. Give good news to those who patiently endure. who say, when struck by a disaster, “Surely to Allah we belong and to Him we will ˹all˺ return. They are the ones who will receive Allah’s blessings and mercy. And it is they who are ˹rightly˺ guided.” (Quran 2: 155-157)

Conclusion:

In the cosmic struggle between good and evil, the role of Shaitan is to divert humanity from the path of righteousness. By understanding his motivations and tactics, believers can fortify themselves against his influence. Obedience to Allah and His Messenger emerges as the most potent defense. The story of the people of Sabbath serves as a poignant reminder that cunning strategies may seem logical, but they ultimately lead to disobedience and ruin. In every circumstance, no matter how challenging, the steadfast commitment to fulfilling the commandments of Allah ensures that believers fulfill the true purpose of their existence and guard against the pitfalls laid by Shaitan.
